World’s most popular instant messaging service, WhatsApp keep testing new features in the beta version of the app.

The latest of the testing involves notifying the contacts over the change of your number. The feature is now available on the Android app version 2.18.97 that gives you an option to notify your contacts as soon as you change your number. Soon the feature will be up for testing in iOS and Windows apps as well.

To begin with, the new Change Number feature, go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Change number. After that, tap the Next button from the top-right corner, enter your old and new phone numbers, tap the Next button again, and then enable the Notify my contacts option. This brings options, namely All contacts, Contacts I have chats with, and Custom.

According to the report by WABetaInfo, this feature will also allow users to migrate their data to a new number easily without much hassle. Whatsapp users who want to enjoy this feature can do so by becoming a beta tester, that you can do so by enrolling your number in the programme.

For now, there is no such feature for WhatsApp users. However, if the test does become successful then soon WhatsApp will soon let all its users change their number and notify their contacts. After entering your new mobile number on WhatsApp for the change, every group you’re a member of will be notified.

During the entire process of changing your number on WhatsApp, you will also be provided with an option to “notify your contacts about your number”. Here too you can choose between all contacts, contacts you usually chat with or customise and choose yourself. Beta users need to note that groups will be notified regardless of you choosing other contacts or not.

After doing so, WhatsApp will transfer all your old chats to a new one. WhatsApp will then notify users of your changed number in a new bubble which will appear in your chats.

This official news doesn’t necessarily mean that the features being tested will roll out on the stable version of the app. Once the migration process is done all messages from the old chat will be shown in the new chat.

Lately, WhatsApp was also seen testing a group description feature which allows the users to set 500 character description of a group.Ones who are interested to try this feature on their smartphone, you can download the latest WhatsApp for Android beta by visiting Google Play. Its APK file is also available for sideloading on compatible devices via APK Mirror.
