Want To Check Your Name On The Voter List? Follow These Steps

If you are a responsible citizen of the society, you are already familiar with the importance of voting. Voting is very crucial for a country to work and since voter lists keep changing in the country, it is necessary that you check if your name is still there in the electoral roll. The general elections of 2019 are also approaching and state elections to be held before that, which means that you need to check your name in the roll as soon as you can.

To vote in any election you need to possess a voter identity card originally issued by the Election Commission of India and your name should be on the electoral rolls. Possession of a voter ID card is just not enough if you want to vote this year. Hence it is very important to check if your name is on the voter list. Take a look at the following steps to know how to check your name on the Indian electoral rolls.

  1. Firstly, you need to visit the official National Voter Services Portal’s (NVSP) Electoral Search page.
  2. After landing on the page just search for your name on the voter list. You can do it by two methods — You can either manually enter all your details or you can simply enter your Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC) number. The EPIC number is mentioned in bold letters on your voter identity card.

If you have an EPIC number, You can take a look at the following steps to check if your name is on the voter list.

  1. Visit the NVSP Electoral Search page.
  2. Tap on Search by EPIC No.
  3. Enter your EPIC number, select the state and key in the code you see on the image. Then click the Search button.
  4. If your name is on electoral rolls, you will be able to see it below the Search button.

If you don’t have your EPIC number, these steps will help you to check your name.

  1. Visit the NVSP Electoral Search page.
  2. Click or tap on Search by Details.
  3. Key in all details which include your name, gender, age, Assembly constituency, among other important details. Then enter the code you see on the captcha image, and finally, click or tap on Search.
  4. If you see a result in the area below the Search button, that means your name is on the voter list.

Voter identity cards in India usually do not have correct spellings of people’s names. That’s why we suggest that you look for your name on electoral rolls via the EPIC number as it’s far less likely to return a false result.

Some states such as Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu also let you check whether your name is on voter lists via SMS. To do this, head to the Election Commission’s page for Chief Electoral Officers’ websites and select your state from the list, then click Go.
