Twitter Has Taken A Big Decision, Account Users Will Be Benefited
Twitter has recently decided to revive the accounts that were closed due to age restriction after the European Union (EU) privacy law came into force on May 25. The micro-blogging platform through a series of tweets stated that they were not expecting the lockdown of the accounts for the users around the age group of 13 years and above because as per the policy of Twitter any person of age 13 years or above can use the micro-blogging platform.
According to the General Data Protection Law (GDPR) introduced by the European Union (EU), anyone below the age of 13 years is not allowed to use these online services.
According to Twitter, after the changes were made because of the new privacy laws (GDPR), there were many accounts that were set up by people when they were younger than 13. The accounts of these users were automatically locked which eventually created a lot of confusion as messages were sent to the users telling them to close their accounts even though many users were older than 13 years.
But now Twitter is reaching out to the people impacted by the irrelevant closure of their twitter accounts. The micro-blogging platform will unlock the accounts and the users can continue using Twitter.
Apart from this, Twitter has partnered with the law enforcement agencies and regulators in order to deal with trolling and to curb fake news at the time of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Taranjeet Singh who is the country director of Twitter India stated that various steps will be taken in order to check the authenticity of posts during the general Lok Sabha elections.
Taranjeet Singh also mentioned that they are trying to verify and are building capacities of political candidates so that the Twitter users are easily able to identify which person they want to follow. Twitter has partnered with one of the best media companies for coverage and live streams. As the 2019 Lok Sabha elections are already quite a buzz around the internet, the microblogging platform is expecting the engagement of the users during the elections to be more and are expecting lots of conservations during the elections in 2019.
In the Karnataka Assembly elections, it was recorded that there were around three million mentions on the social platform in just three weeks between April 25 and May 15. Taranjeet Singh said that the popularity of Twitter has increased including the sectors like auto, banking and financial services and technology.
Twitter has also introduced emoji to make the conversation even more interesting and this feature will work on almost every android phones and iOS platforms. In April 2018, a new emoji was launched specially for the event of the 14th Malaysian General Election which was available on the Twitter until May 16.
