It’s been months since Google was rumoured to shut down its in-house social network Google+ but it seems that the internet giant has finally made a decision regarding this as they have announced to officially shut down Google+ over the next 10 months.

The reason for such decision by Google is the security flaw that the users have been facing for a while now, the personal data of about 500.000 Google+ users were exposed to developers.

The company revealed that the security issue was present for more than two years and they did not take any action to fix the problem. They did not take any action because they were afraid of the investigation from regulators.

In the aftermath of the security flaw, the company added that it has added finer controls to the users so that they can better protect the data that they are sharing.

Take a look at the following steps if you too want to remove their account from the service of Google+.

Step 1: Firstly, open your Gmail account and once you will do then click on your profile picture on the top right corner to reveal the menu, where you need to select “Google+ Profile” option. Users can also navigate to plus.google.com/u/0/me to visit the page directly.

Step 2: Click on the “Settings” link on the left of the screen.

Step 3: In the setting section, scroll to the bottom and in the “Account” section just select the “Delete your Google+ profile”. Google then will open a new page and ask you to verify your account.

Step 4: Once you have logged in, Google will inform you about the consequences of deleting the account. If you still want to delete your account then check the “Required: Yes, I understand that deleting the Google+ profile for USERNAME (E-mail ID) can’t be undone and the data I delete can’t be restored” and click “Delete”.

That’s all it takes. Keep in mind that removing your Google+ profile from your Google account can affect your YouTube comments and interactions. YouTube uses your Google+ information, so be prepared.
