Ahead of the big release of Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer ‘2.0’ movie on November 29, now the Telecom operators’ body COAI now has objected to the trailer of the movie, claiming that the trailer is showing cellphones as well as mobile towers in a really bad light and that can affect their consumers.

Produced by Lyca movies, 2.0 made an investment of worth Rs 500 crore. Rajinikanth stated in his speech during one of the pre-launch promotions that the soon to be released movie has recurring characters from the earlier movie Enthiran, produced by the Maran family-owned Sun Pictures. The 2.0 movie was written by Shankar and writer B Jeyamohan.

Hence, COAI has requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to revoke the certification of the film. COAI members include Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea has alleged that the promotional videos are based on the theme that electromagnetic field emissions from mobile phones and towers are harmful to all living creatures in the planet and the environment.

Such promotional videos according to COAI can create unfounded fear and mass paranoia by spreading misinformation about the adverse impact of mobile towers and mobile phones. In their official statement they also added to the problem by mentioning that the content of the movie is “defamatory to COAI and its members, endangers public order, presents anti-scientific attitudes, constitutes offences including under various sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and is in violation of the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952”.

“We have requested that the exhibition of the movie be suspended in the meantime,” COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said in the statement. Not just that, but according to the COAI the movie is also defaming other public interests as well, alleging that the content of film constitutes offences under Section 268 (public nuisance), Section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and Section 499 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to some portals, Rajinikanth, who is preparing to enter politics, is expected to announce plans of launching a political party in the coming weeks.
