Here’s How You Can Register Online For National Pension Scheme

Retirement can be a good phase only if you have invested for it in your early youth. The government of India introduced National Pension System (NPS) was launched on 1st January, in the year 2004 with an aim to provide retirement income to all the citizens of the country.

Any citizen with an age between 18 and 60 years can open a pension account under NPS with the help of several available options. If you too want to invest in the national pension scheme, here’s how you can do it.

Registration using Aadhaar:
If you are looking to register to the NPS scheme using your Aadhar card, here’s what you need to do. You first need to make sure that your mobile number is registered with your Aadhar. If yes, then let’s move to your KYC. The KYC of you Aadhar will be done using One Time Password (OTP) authentication. The OTP will first be sent to your registered mobile number, which is linked to your Aadhar.

All the demographic details and also your photo will be fetched right from you Aadhar database directly to an online form. Other mandatory details will need to be filled by you. In the signature section of the online form, you’ll have to attach your scanned signature (in *.jpeg/*.jpg, file size should be between 4kb – 12kb) as part of the registration process.

If you want to replace the picture that was retrieved from your Aadhar, you can upload another picture of yours, but it needs to be scanned first. After filling your online form, you will be routed to the payment gateway towards your NPS account from Debit/ Credit card or Internet Banking

Registration using PAN:
If your KYC has not been done, don’t worry because when you’ll select the bank for the registration in NPS, the KYC will be done then and there. However, you need to make sure that your name and address will match with the records that your bank have if not your registration form would not be accepted. In case of that situation, the applicant is requested to contact the Bank.

To register yourself in the scheme, fill up all the mandatory details in an online form, also you need to upload your scanned photograph and signature in *.jpeg/*.jpg format having file size between 4kb – 12kb. After filling your online form, you will be routed to the payment gateway towards your NPS from internet banking.

After Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) is allotted, a subscriber can use one of the following options:

For Tier I PRANs generated through Aadhaar, you have an option to eSign the document. Firstly, select ‘eSign’ option in the eSign / Print & Courier page, then an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number for the purpose of authentication, after which your registration form will be successfully eSigned, If you have eSigned your document you no longer need to send the physical copy of form to CRA.

But if you want to opt for Printing and sending your document through courier, you need to select ‘Print & Courier’ option in the eSign / Print & Courier page. Then take a printout of the form, paste your photograph with an affixed signature. Do not staple or clip your picture to the form. Additionally, you need to send your filled form prior to the 90 days from the date of allotment of PRAN to CRA at the following address.
