BSNL Will Withdraw Its Free Sunday Calling Plan From February 1
State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has decided to withdraw its free voice calling benefits from landlines on Sundays from February 1. Earlier this month, BSNL changed the time of the free night calls for broadband plans. Previously, the free night calling time was from 9 PM to 7 AM but the same was changed and was effective between 10:30 PM to 6 AM for broadband users. The decision to withdraw voice call benefits from landlines in Sundays comes soon after the company decided to curb free night calling benefits.
This means that from February 1, BSNL customers who have subscribed for the FTTH, landline, broadband and combo plans will be charged on Sundays just like any other day. It will be applicable on both the existing and new customers too.
The plan was initially launched in 2016. The recent news will be a major blow to its subscribers. While the plan to withdraw the benefits will be applied nationally, for Calcutta Telephones, the company will come up with an alternative plan to mitigate some impact of the disaster. Calcutta Telephones (CalTel) is BSNL’s Kolkata unit with six lakh fixed landline connections out of some 12 million connections across the country.
BSNL has not given any concrete reason behind the sudden move. The plan was seen as a tactical move combat with big players such as Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone.
