Annoyed With Overcharging In Trains, IRCTC Launches New App To Solve This Problem
Indian Railways has recently launched a new app ‘Menu on Rail’ for the passengers to order food on the train. This app will ensure that the passengers are not being overcharged. Piyush Goyal who is the current railway minister launched the new app ‘Menu on Rail’.
This app will be used to spread awareness among passengers about the different menu options on various Indian Railways trains and stations and the price of these food items. This new app will help prevent the passengers from getting overcharged by the caterers. The passengers travelling in Mail/Express including Humsafar Trains, Rajdhani Trains, Shatabdi Trains, Duronto Trains, Gatiman Express and Tejas Express will be able to view the menu in this new application launched by IRCTC.
Prices of the food items such as Tea, Coffee, Packaged Drinking Water, Standard Veg (Thali), Standard Non-veg (Thali), Standard Veg (Casserole) and Standard Non-veg (Casserole) will be available on the ‘Menu on Rail’ app. The prices of these food items on the trains and also on the railway stations will be available on the application.
The A-La-Carte category in the application has around 96 food items which will be available under different sub-categories such as Breakfast, Light Meals, Combo Meals, Non-Veg, Diabetic foods, Jain Food, Sweets etc.
The passengers travelling in Mail or Express trains will be able to view the food items under the four categories that are Beverages, Breakfast, Meals, and A-La-Carte. If a passenger in travelling EC and CC classes of Shatabdi trains or in 1A, 2A and 3A classes of the Rajdhani and Duronto trains then the application will also show pre-booked food items.
In the new application, pre-booked food items for Gatiman and Tejas Express trains will also be shown. Even if the trains are running late, the menu will be available for the passengers. The prices of the food items present on the ‘Menu on Rail’ app are inclusive of taxes so that there is no confusion related to taxation.
The ‘Menu on Rail’ application is available on Google Play Store and both the Android and iOS smartphone user can take advantage of this app. The website of this application ecatering.irctc.co.in is also accessible for the passengers to view the menu on their laptops or computers.
Indian Railways launched this application as many passengers filed complaints against the overcharging by the caterers. This app will make sure that the passengers are not charged more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of the food items. According to Indian Railways, the passengers shouldn’t pay for the food items for which the vendors are not ready to issue a bill.
